Herman Mallen House (1904)
South side view
This George Maher designed-house always drove me crazy with its greatly altered appearance of brick veneer and fake stonework. Originally stucco with open east and west porches, you could still see some original details like the art glass in second story windows and moldings in the balcony. I was shocked to see this house looking prairie style again.

The James J. Wait House, built 1897 by Dwight Perkins, at 1120 East 48th, sits adjacent to a ham-handedly modernized 1890 house with an unfortunate new brick veneer.
