Vancouver’s Leading Resource for Brick Veneer and Thin Brick

Thin brick is a masonry veneer of low weight applied to exterior and interior walls of homes and commercial buildings to offer the appearance of conventional brick at a fraction of the cost and lower impact to the environment. Thin brick, which is sometimes called faux brick, is made from a combination of clay, gravel and cement.  Thin brick is real brick, it’s simply cut or made thinner. As only a portion of the brick is used, the expense related to thin brick is always more affordable than full size traditional brick.

Installation is also easier with thin brick than traditional brick.  When comparing to other buidling materials, brick veneer is deemed more visually appealing by most people, and it requires less maintenance and is more durable than siding like vinyl, wood or metal. Siding made of metal is prone to dents and can fade with time. Siding with wood will need to be painted frequently, and does not stand up to inclement weather well. When tested against vinyl siding, brick veneer proved to be more durable and less likely to puncture.

It should be noted that thin brick is a lighter covering application used primarily for appearance. Thin brick is not to be used as a load bearing product and will not help a wall’s structural strength. Brick Veneer walls are, however self-supporting, placing no added stress on the structural components of the building. Because the thin bricks are not structural, they can be initiated after the building’s roof and walls, with out the costly brick ledge that is required for traditional brick. This provides builders with a great deal of flexibility in the 98667 area.

.

Historically, the two primary techniques for installing thin brick walls were either adhered or anchored systems. The anchored system requires brick ties or angle brackets to anchor the thin brick wall to a building’s structural frame. The adhered system requires a small layer of mortar to attach the brick veneer to the structure and does not require the use of anchors or brick ties. These traditional methods for installing thin brick are becoming out-dated thanks to Ambrico’s EZ Wall® Engineered Thin Brick System. The E-Z Wall System is fast and easy to install and features heavy-duty panels that provide the greatest durability and strength offered from a thin brick installation system.

Although thin brick installation is easier than a traditional brick wall, it is not an advisable task for amateur  homeowners without professional contracting experience.  All of the contractors that Ambrico refers have successfully completed our EZ-Wall certification process, offered by the United States Thin Masonry Association (USTMA). We will be happy to help in all thin brick installs in Vancouver.
