Washington’s Leading Resource for Thin Brick and Brick Veneer

Thin brick is a masonry veneer of low weight used on exterior and interior walls of homes and commercial buildings to offer the look of traditional brick at a fraction of the cost and lower impact to the environment. Thin brick, which is also known as brick veneer, is made from a combination of clay, gravel and cement.  Thin brick is authentic brick, it’s simply cut or made thinner. Made with only a portion of the components of most bricks, the expense related to thin brick is much more affordable than full size traditional bricks.

Installation is also easier with thin brick than traditional brick.  In comparison to other building materials, thin brick is deemed more visually appealing by most people, and it’s durable and requires less maintenance than vinyl, metal or wood siding. Siding made of metal tends to fade or get dented with time. Siding with wood is affected greatly by adverse weather, and will require painting at some point. Thin brick has also proven to be more durable than vinyl, and is less likely to puncture.

It is important to note that thin brick is a light-weight covering application primarily used for appearance. Thin brick is not to be considered a load bearing solution and will not improve a wall’s structural integrity. However, thin brick walls are self-supporting, putting zero additional burden on the structural components of the building. As the thin bricks are not structural, they can be initiated after the building’s roof and walls, with out a costly brick ledge which is required for full brick. This provides a great deal of flexibility for builders in Tacoma.

.

Historically, the two primary methods for installing thin brick walls were either adhered or anchored systems. The anchored system requires angle brackets or brick ties to anchor the thin brick wall to a building’s structural frame. The adhered system employs a thin layer of mortar to attach the brick veneer to the frame and does not require using anchors or brick ties. These traditional ways of installing thin brick are becoming out-dated thanks to our EZ Wall® Engineered Thin Brick System. The EZ Wall System is fast and easy to install and uses sturdy panels to give the greatest strength and durability offered from a thin brick installation system.

While installing brick veneer is easier than a traditional brick wall, it is not an advisable task for amateur  homeowners without professional contracting experience.  All of the contractors that we refer have successfully finished the Ambrico EZ-Wall certification process, offered by the United States Thin Masonry Association (USTMA). We will be happy to help in all thin brick installations in Tacoma.
