Tacoma’s Leading Resource for Brick Veneer and Thin Brick

Thin brick is a lightweight masonry veneer used on exterior and interior walls of buildings and residences to provide the appearance of traditional brick at a fraction of the cost and lower impact to the environment. Thin brick, which is also known as faux brick, is made from a combination of clay, gravel and cement.  Thin brick is authentic brick, it’s just made or cut thinner. As only a portion of the brick is used, the cost of thin brick is always more affordable than full size traditional brick.

Installation is also easier with thin brick than traditional brick.  In comparison to other building materials, thin brick is not only more aesthetically pleasing, but it requires less maintenance and is more durable than metal, wood, or vinyl siding. Metal siding is prone to dents and can fade with time. Siding with wood is affected greatly by adverse weather, and will require painting at some point. Thin brick has also proven to be more durable than vinyl, and is less likely to puncture.

It should be noted that thin brick is a lightweight covering application primarily used for looks. Thin brick is not to be used as a load bearing material and will not aid in a building’s structural strength. However, thin brick walls are self-supporting, putting no added stress on the building’s structural components. As the veneer walls are not structural, they can be initiated after the building’s roof and walls, with out the costly brick ledge that is required for traditional brick. This provides a great deal of flexibility for builders in the 98460 area.

Historically, the two primary methods for installing thin brick siding were the anchored system and the adhered system. The anchored system requires angle brackets or brick ties to attache the thin brick wall to a building’s structural framing. The adhered system requires a light layer of mortar to attach the brick veneer to the frame and does not require the use of brick ties or anchors. These traditional methods for installing thin brick are becoming out-dated thanks to our EZ Wall® Engineered Thin Brick System. The EZ Wall System is fast and easy to install and features heavy-duty panels to provide the greatest durability and strength offered from a thin brick installation technique.

While installing brick veneer is easier than a traditional brick wall, it is not recommended as a job for non-experienced contractors or homeowners.  All of the contractors that we refer have successfully passed the Ambrico EZ-Wall certification process, offered by the United States Thin Masonry Association (USTMA). We will be glad to assist in all thin brick installations in Tacoma.

Ambrico’s EZ Wall System is an ideal option for replacing the existing façade of a wall since it can be put on structures constructed with almost any type of material, such as wood, aluminum or vinyl siding. While most commonly used for remodeling projects, this brick veneer system can also be employed in new construction when the weight of full bricks is not wanted. The EZ Wall Engineered Thin Brick System is available with a wide selection of brick from all of the leading brick manufacturers to complement the design and site requirements of any siding job. The thin brick options stretch from contemporary glazed and smooth brick to traditional brick designs.  Thin bricks also come in various shapes to accommodate and create sills, cornices, quoins and other ornamental architectural details.
