Pennsylvania’s Leading Resource for Thin Brick and Brick Veneer

Thin brick is a lightweight masonry veneer applied to interior and exterior walls of buildings and residences to give the appearance of traditional brick at a fraction of the cost and with less environmental impact. Thin brick, which is sometimes called faux brick, is made from a combination of clay, gravel and cement.  Thin brick is authentic brick, it’s just made or cut thinner. As only a part of the regular brick is used, the expense related to thin brick is much more affordable than traditional full-thickness brick.

Thin brick is also easier to install than standard full-thickness brick.  When comparing to other buidling materials, thin brick is not only more aesthetically pleasing, but it requires less maintenance and is more durable than metal, wood, or vinyl siding. Metal siding tends to fade or get dented over time. Wood siding requires extra painting and can be damaged by rot, insects, warping or splitting. Thin brick has also proven to be more durable than vinyl, and is less likely to puncture.

It is important to note that thin brick is a light-weight surface product used primarily for looks. Thin brick is not to be considered a load bearing product and will not help a building’s structural integrity. Brick Veneer walls are, however self-supporting, placing no added burden on the building’s structural components. Because the thin bricks are not structural, they can be installed after the building’s roof and walls, with out a costly brick ledge that is required for full brick. This provides builders with a great deal of flexibility in Philadelphia.

Historically, the two primary techniques for installing thin brick siding were either adhered or anchored systems. The anchored system relies on brick ties or angle brackets to anchor the thin brick wall to a building’s structural framing. The adhered system uses a thin layer of mortar to attach the brick veneer to the frame and does not require using anchors or brick ties. These traditional ways of installing thin brick are becoming obsolete thanks to our EZ Wall® Engineered Thin Brick System. The E-Z Wall System is easy and fast to install and features heavy-duty panels that provide the greatest strength and durability available in a thin brick installation method.

Although installing brick veneer is easier than a regular brick wall, it is not recommended as a job for someone who has never dealt with thin bricks.  All of the contractors that we refer have successfully completed the Ambrico EZ-Wall certification process, operated by the United States Thin Masonry Association (USTMA). We will be glad to help in all thin brick installations in Philadelphia.

Ambrico’s EZ Wall System is an ideal option for replacing the existing façade of a structure because it can be placed on structures built with synthetic stucco, lightweight stone veneer, wood, aluminum or vinyl siding. While most often used for remodeling applications, this brick veneer system can also be employed in new construction when traditional brick is not needed. The EZ Wall Engineered Thin Brick System is available with a wide selection of brick colors, textures and finishes to complement the design and site requirements of any project. The thin brick selections range from contemporary glazed and smooth brick to traditional brick designs.  Special shapes of brick veneer are available to create cornices, sills. and other cool architectural details.
