Oklahoma City’s Leading Resource for Brick Veneer and Thin Brick
Thin brick is a lightweight masonry veneer used on interior and exterior walls of buildings and residences to offer the look of conventional brick at a more affordable cost and lower impact to the environment. Thin brick, which is also known as faux brick, is made in the same manner as traditional brick. Thin brick is real brick, it is simply cut or made thinner. As only a portion of the brick is used, the cost of thin brick is usually more affordable than traditional full-thickness brick.
Another advantage is that installation is easier with thin brick. In comparison to other building materials, thin brick is not only more aesthetically pleasing, but it’s durable and requires less maintenance than metal, wood, or vinyl siding. Siding made of metal is prone to dents and can fade with time. Wood siding requires extra painting and can be damaged by rot, insects, warping or splitting. Thin brick has also proven to be more durable than vinyl, and is less likely to puncture.
Please keep in mind that thin brick is a lightweight covering application used primarily for looks. Thin brick is not to be used as a load bearing material and will not help a wall’s structural strength. Brick Veneer walls are, however self-supporting, placing zero additional stress on the building’s structural components. As the veneer walls are not structural, they can be initiated after the structure’s walls and roof, with out a costly brick ledge which is required for traditional brick. This provides a great deal of flexibility for builders in Oklahoma City.
In years past, the two primary techniques for installing thin brick walls were the anchored system and the adhered system. The anchored system requires brick ties or angle brackets to secure the thin brick wall to a building’s structural framing. The adhered system uses a light layer of mortar to attach the brick veneer to the structure and does not require using anchors or brick ties. These traditional ways of installing thin brick are becoming obsolete thanks to Ambrico’s EZ Wall® Engineered Thin Brick System. The E-Z Wall System is easy and fast to install and uses heavy-duty panels that give the greatest durability and strength available in a thin brick installation technique.
Although thin brick installation is easier than a traditional brick wall, it is not an advisable task for non-experienced contractors or homeowners. All of the contractors that we refer have successfully finished the Ambrico EZ-Wall certification process, operated by the United States Thin Masonry Association (USTMA). We will be happy to help in all thin brick projects in Oklahoma City.
Ambrico’s EZ Wall System is an ideal solution for replacing the existing façade of a wall since it can be put on structures constructed with almost any type of material, such as wood, aluminum or vinyl siding. While most often used for remodeling jobs, this brick veneer system can also be used in new construction when traditional brick is not needed. The EZ Wall Engineered Thin Brick System is available with a wide selection of brick colors, textures and finishes to complement the site requirements and design of any siding job. The thin brick options stretch from contemporary glazed and smooth brick to traditional brick designs.
