Washington’s Leading Resource for Thin Brick and Brick Veneer
Thin brick is a masonry veneer of low weight applied to interior and exterior walls of homes and commercial buildings to provide the appearance of traditional brick at a fraction of the cost and lower impact to the environment. Thin brick, which is also known as brick veneer, is made in the same manner as traditional brick. Thin brick is real brick, it’s simply made or cut thinner. As only a part of the regular brick is used, the cost of thin brick is usually more affordable than traditional full-thickness bricks.
Installation is also easier with thin brick than traditional brick. When comparing to other buidling materials, brick veneer is not only more aesthetically pleasing, but it’s durable and requires less maintenance than siding like vinyl, wood or metal. Metal siding is prone to dents and can fade with time. Siding with wood is affected greatly by adverse weather, and will require painting at some point. When tested against vinyl siding, brick veneer proved to be more durable and less likely to puncture.
Please keep in mind that brick veneer is a lightweight surface product used primarily for looks. Thin brick should not be considered a load bearing material and will not improve a building’s structural integrity. However, thin brick walls are self-supporting, placing zero added stress on the building’s structural components. Because the veneer walls are non-structural, they can be initiated after the structure’s walls and roof, with out the costly brick ledge which is required for traditional brick. This provides a great deal of flexibility for builders in Naches.
Historically, the two basic techniques for installing thin brick siding were the anchored system and the adhered system. The anchored system relies on angle brackets or brick ties to attache the brick veneer wall to a building’s structural framing. The adhered system requires a thin layer of mortar to attach the brick veneer to the structure and does not require using brick ties or anchors. These old-fashioned methods for installing thin brick are becoming out-dated thanks to Ambrico’s EZ Wall® Engineered Thin Brick System. The E-Z Wall System is fast and easy to install and uses sturdy panels to provide the greatest durability and strength available in a thin brick installation system.
Although installing brick veneer is easier than a traditional brick wall, it is not recommended as a job for someone who has never dealt with thin bricks. All of the professionals that Ambrico refers have successfully completed the Ambrico EZ-Wall certification process, operated by the United States Thin Masonry Association (USTMA). We will be glad to assist in all thin brick installs in Naches.
Ambrico’s EZ Wall System is an ideal choice for replacing the existing façade of a building because it can be used on structures built with synthetic stucco, lightweight stone veneer, wood, aluminum or vinyl siding. While most often utilized on remodeling applications, the thin brick system can also be employed in new construction where the weight of regular masonry is too heavy. The EZ Wall Engineered Thin Brick System is available with a wide selection of brick colors, textures and finishes to complement the design and site requirements of any project. The brick veneer options stretch from contemporary glazed and smooth brick to traditional brick designs. Special shapes of brick veneer are available to create sills, cornices, quoins and other ornamental architectural details.
