Alabama’s Leading Resource for Thin Brick and Brick Veneer
Thin brick is a masonry veneer of low weight applied to exterior and interior walls of homes and commercial buildings to give the look of traditional brick at a more affordable cost and lower impact to the environment. Thin brick, which is also known as brick veneer, is made from a combination of clay, gravel and cement. Thin brick is real brick, it is just made or cut thinner. Made with only a portion of the components of most bricks, the cost of thin brick is much more affordable than traditional full-thickness brick.
Thin brick is also easier to install than standard full-thickness brick. In comparison to other building materials, brick veneer is not only more aesthetically pleasing, but it’s durable and requires less maintenance than metal, wood, or vinyl siding. Metal siding is prone to dents and can fade over time. Siding with wood will need to be painted frequently, and does not stand up to inclement weather well. Thin brick has also proven to be more durable than vinyl, and is less likely to puncture.
Please keep in mind that brick veneer is a lightweight covering material used primarily for looks. Thin brick is not to be considered a load bearing solution and will not help a wall’s structural strength. Brick Veneer walls are, however self-supporting, placing no added stress on the building’s structural components. As the thin bricks are non-structural, they can be installed after the structure’s walls and roof, with out the costly brick ledge that is required for full brick. This provides a great deal of flexibility for builders in Castleberry.
In years past, the two basic techniques for installing thin brick walls were either adhered or anchored systems. The anchored system requires brick ties or angle brackets to secure the brick veneer wall to a building’s structural frame. The adhered system employs a light layer of mortar to attach the brick veneer to the structure and does not require using brick ties or anchors. These old-fashioned methods for installing thin brick are becoming out-dated thanks to Ambrico’s EZ Wall® Engineered Thin Brick System. The E-Z Wall System is easy and fast to install and features robust panels to provide the most durability and strength available in a thin brick installation system.
Although thin brick installation is easier than a regular brick wall, it is not an advisable task for non-experienced contractors or homeowners. All of the professionals that we refer have successfully passed the Ambrico EZ-Wall certification process, ran by the United States Thin Masonry Association (USTMA). We will be happy to assist in all thin brick installations in Castleberry.
Ambrico’s EZ Wall System is a great solution for replacing the existing façade of a structure since it can be put on structures built with just about every type of siding, such as vinyl, aluminum or wood.
