Bourbon’s Leading Resource for Brick Veneer and Thin Brick

Thin brick is a masonry veneer of low weight applied to interior and exterior walls of buildings and residences to present the look of traditional brick at a more affordable cost and with less environmental impact. Thin brick, which is sometimes called faux brick, is made from a combination of clay, gravel and cement.  Thin brick is real brick, it is simply made or cut thinner. As only a part of the regular brick is used, the expense related to thin brick is much more affordable than traditional full-thickness brick.

Installation is also easier with thin brick than traditional brick.  In comparison to other building materials, thin brick is deemed more visually appealing by most people, and it’s durable and requires less maintenance than vinyl, metal or wood siding. Siding made of metal is prone to dents and can fade over time. Wood siding is affected greatly by adverse weather, and will require painting at some point. When tested against vinyl siding, brick veneer proved to be more durable and less likely to puncture.

Please keep in mind that brick veneer is a light-weight covering material used primarily for appearance. Thin brick is not to be used as a load bearing product and will not improve a wall’s structural strength. Brick Veneer walls are, however self-supporting, placing no additional stress on the structural components of the building. As the thin bricks are not structural, they can be introduced after the building’s walls and roof, with out an expensive brick ledge which is required for traditional brick. This provides builders with a great deal of flexibility in the 46504 area.

In years past, the two primary techniques for installing thin brick siding were the anchored system and the adhered system. The anchored system relies on brick ties or angle brackets to attache the brick veneer wall to a building’s structural framing. The adhered system employs a thin layer of mortar to attach the brick veneer to the structure and does not require the use of brick ties or anchors. These traditional methods for installing thin brick are becoming obsolete thanks to our EZ Wall® Engineered Thin Brick System. The EZ Wall System is easy and fast to install and features robust panels to provide the greatest durability and strength available in a thin brick installation method.

While thin brick installation is easier than a traditional brick wall, it is not an advisable task for amateur  homeowners without professional contracting experience.  All of the contractors that Ambrico uses have successfully passed our EZ-Wall certification process, offered by the United States Thin Masonry Association (USTMA). We will be happy to help in all thin brick installations in Bourbon.

Ambrico’s EZ Wall System is a great choice for replacing the existing façade of a building since it can be placed on structures constructed with synthetic stucco, lightweight stone veneer, wood, aluminum or vinyl siding. While most often used for remodeling projects, the thin brick system can also be employed in new construction when the weight of full bricks is not wanted. The EZ Wall Engineered Thin Brick System is available with a wide selection of brick from all of the leading brick manufacturers to complement the design and site requirements of any siding job.
