Your Questions About Fake Brick Wall

Thomas asks…

I am looking for those self-sticking fake brick panels that were popular in the 1970s.?

They were plastic, and you simply peeled off the adhesive strip on the back, and stuck them on the wall. Does anyone know where I can find them? Thanks.

Mr. Thin Brick answers:

Try an used renvotion place..they might have them

Helen asks…

Need wall covering suggestions?

I have an 8 foot high, 13 foot long wall in my living room. It is the wall where my tv is going to be. The surrounding walls are a cream color. The wall was some type of board with the wallpaper factory attached. The wallpaper has pretty much peeled off and I want to do something with the wall that is low-budget. Someone suggested Waynes Coating, but can you get pieces that are 8′ tall and will it look stupid with Wayne’s Coating floor to ceiling? I also thought about the fake brick walls, but they seem to be more expensive and I have not found that in a local Lowes or Home Depot. I really do not want to put up drywall and believe that the current board is glued to the drywall and do not want to try to pull it off and cause damage.

Mr. Thin Brick answers:

It sounds like painting is not an option because of the surface of the wallboard.

If you like textured wallpaper, try to find a beige that is the same or almost the same as the other three walls.

There are many options offered for this type of wallpaper with simple textures like stucco, geometric and freeform textures. All will be attractive behind the television set and will be nice backgrounds for any artwork you put up, posters, photographs, etc.

Carol asks…

is there any fake brick that looks good?

I want to put either fake brick or fake stone on a couple walls in my house; bedroom, dining room, maybe the living room. Is there any that looks good or is it all cheesy looking once you put it up? I found some at Menards for only $21 a sheet that looks ok in the display but I’m afraid it might look awful when I put it up. Has anybody had any luck with this stuff or can you direct me to a website if there’s something better? I’m not going to spend thousands on this stuff so find me the cheap stuff.

Mr. Thin Brick answers:

You could purchase a couple sheets of it, lean it up against the area you plan to install. Leave it there for a couple of days so you can view it in your own environment as the light changes throughout the day and at night in your own artificial light. SAVE THE RECEIPT. If it doesn’t agree with you, take it back.

Donna asks…

where can i find fake bricks to stick to a wall??r=1224020330?

Mr. Thin Brick answers:

Find your nearest brick distributor, most are able to take any full-bricks and slice them so you can fix it onto a wall to look like a real brick wall. That’s the most realistic way, since they are really from real bricks. Maybe you could also just get full bricks, rent a “wet saw” and cut them yourself, but its very messy, and be extremely careful not to cut your fingers off.
Alternatively, some companies make them
bouldercreekstone.com (genuine clay product)
culturedstone.com
eldoradostone.com
ask them for your closest distributor

Betty asks…

WHAT can we put over CEMENT FROM FAKE BRICK??? (use capitals as many want that, not rude !!)?

SIMILAR QUESTION ASKED 1 SAID USE ROUGH STUFF FROM LOWES CAN SMEAR ON, VOTED BEST REPLY, YUK, SEEN IT, AWFUL, NO WAY USE THAT !!!!!! SOMETHING LIKE WAINSCOAT OR T1-11 , WANT TO PAINT BRIGHT COLOR, as rest walls paneling ??? please only sensible replies, not far out ones. thanks

Mr. Thin Brick answers:

I would personally fir over the wall and put new drywall up…or even glue the drywall directly to the yucky stuff and just be done with it. At $8/sheet, it’s a very inexpensive and easy solution to a decorating eyesore.
