Your Questions About Thin Bricks

Robert asks…
I am putting on a fire safety demonstration for work and I am confused about the materials…?
We are learning how to use fire extinguishers. The fire department said I need a turkey pan, brick, paint thinner and a lighter to create a fire. Does this sound right? Am I missing something? Why a brick? How much paint thinner should I buy per turkey pan? They are closed and can’t answer my questions by Monday. Any help would be appreciated
Mr. Thin Brick answers:
The brick was meant for weight in the pan to keep it from moving. You will need less than a 1/4″ of fuel in the bottom, about an 1/8″ would be plenty. Use an open flame on on long stick approx. 6′ to light with. Diesel fuel is hard to get ignited takes alot of heat to get lighted, that is why they told you to use paint thinner. Paint thinner is highly flammable, so use extreme caution when lighting. Establish a safe zone of at least 20′ with no one else in that zone except the person lighting the pan and a trained person on the extinguisher. After the pan is lit then take another ext. And start about 6′-8′ away with a sweeping motion at the base of the fire until it is put out. I am assuming that somone there will be trained well enough to present this demonstration. If not then make a call to the fire dept. And ask them if they would do it for you or have someone present for this. Also you might try your work’s workman’s comp. Insurance company, they have people that get paid to put on these sort of demonstraions. Go online to Kidde fire protection and they also have they info. That you will need to help in your presentation. It is very hard for me to believe that your company would have you do a demonstration that has a high probability of injuring someone. I hope you have good insurance. Whenever I do these I wear my turnout gear and always have another FF to back me up in case of trouble. If you need more info go to the NFPA website and they will have all the info you could ask for. Good luck and please, please be safe.

Paul asks…
I live in MN and recently found a spider in my garage, where can I find out what type it is?
From a distance it looked like a lady bug, upon further inspection, it was a spider. It had two white dots (eyes or on the rear, not sure which). It was a darker red color, like brick. Light brown thin legs. Creepy looking, just curious what type and is it dangerous.
Mr. Thin Brick answers:
Sounds like a cobweb spider,(common house spider)
and they are harmless. The only dangerous spider in Mn.
Is the northern black widow.

Ruth asks…
I dont like my shape. Up and down, big tummy thin legs.?
I hate my body! My bust is small, my waist seems big and i hardly have hips!
I feel like a walking brick, like my torso is big and podgey and short and then i have really thin long legs.
What can i do to make my waist look smaller? it looks smaller without clothes on, but with clothes on i look like a 9 year old boy.
Thanks xxx
Mr. Thin Brick answers:
Okay… Do you know any people who love their bodies?
(bugger them!)
You’ve mentioned everything you don’t like, but what is it you DO like about yourself? That’s usually a starting point you should emphasise when picking out clothes.
If like me you still have a hard time answering THAT question… The next would be what clothes do YOU like wearing? If someone told me to wear a dress I’d laugh… I live in jeans and love V-neck tops, tailored blouses especially. But I know what I can’t wear (which is a lot at the moment because I am overweight).
To me, it sounds like you need to wear something that makes you feel good about yourself. Loose but tailored blouses and layers seem to work best on girls with less in the bra department, plus tailored tops accent a waist even when you don’t have one, so look for the darts where girls shoudl have darts!
Thin long legs? You can wear those Capri pants the rest of us can’t! But you could add more shape with flared or boot-cut jeans. As for waist, I think you’d have some idea to what must look good on you… Do you go the low-rise jeans, the cute tailored skirts, or does a red belt with a pair of black slacks or jeans do it?
Cheer up, you can’t be as hopeless as me right now
Right now I can only get around in the colours I love in my pyjamas because I know my partner loves me anyway!

Linda asks…
I want to brick my patio but…?
I can’t raise the height very much. Somebody used to make these bricks that were only about 1/2 inch thick, maybe a little more. I have no idea who made them or what they were called. The people at Lowe’s, HD, and the one brick company I called acted like I was nuts when I asked about them. Have you ever seen anything like this? (I do know they’re not Patio Pizzazz. They’re exactly like bricks, just thin).
Sorry–I didn’t explain myself very well. The patio is already there: It’s a solid slab of old, ugly concrete. I want to brick OVER it. Thanks for the suggestions.
Mr. Thin Brick answers:
They are called pavers and are usually no thicker than a 1/2 inch and get easily be cut with a tile saw.Check with your local tile company.

William asks…
no thin walls question?
Hello,
My Fiance and I are moving out of our nice condo in Rosedale (Toronto, CANADA). It’s nice but the walls are THIN and it is driving me CRAZY. There is absolutely no privacy!! I am pregnant and I don’t need this. Do you think moving into a condo that is made out of bricks or a brown stone would help? As in would that deaden out the sound? I am fed up w my neighbors just being rude and nosy! Thanks for any advice!
Mr. Thin Brick answers:
I find many of the newer condos have thinner walls – you could potentially look into an older building/home but then you are looking at higher maintenance fees. You could try and soundproof the walls but that could be costly and you may be in violation of the condo agreement.
