Your Questions About Brick Wall Panels

Betty asks…
I want to attach a 2×6 x12 to an exterior brick wall what is the best way.?
This board will be used for attach one end of the r panel roofing material. This is for a carport project…..
Mr. Thin Brick answers:
I would suggest drilling through the brick and using long lag screws that screw into the framing behind the brick. I would be concerned about any system that anchors into the brick only.
If the back side is accessible consider bolts or threaded rods.

Lizzie asks…
soundproofing a brick party wall-best method?
I have a brick built semi-detached house (solid walls not cavity) and want to soundproof a bedroom party wall due to noise coming through from next door. The approximate area is 8 sq metres. The wall is solid brick and plastered (not plasterboard).
In forum discussion http://soundproofmyhome.com gave me
2 main options:
1) build an additional stud wall slightly out from the brick wall and use an acoustic insulation material in the stud wall, then plasterboard over. The problem with this is that it steals about 5-6 inches from the room size which I really can’t afford to lose.
2) Use acoustic panels (Acousticel M20AD 20mm are the ones I’ve seen most commonly advertised), which are glued to the wall and then covered with 2 layers of 12.5mm plasterboard. This takes up no more than 2 inches of space, and is a lot cheaper too. I understand this is less effective than option 1), but the noise coming through is just general (TV, voices, walking on wooden floors, and not heavy bass etc), so this would seem to do the job and is my preferred option. Does anyone have any experience of installing/using these panels and are there any snags? Or other alternatives?
Typical price seems to be about £28 per sq m plus VAT.

Im a builder ..and have sounproofed many rooms ..including doctors surgeries ..you best bet is form wall in 50mm metal studs ..then infill with rockwool slabs ..not the normal ones but the sound proofing ones ..these are heavy ..then plasterboard over and skim …if the floor joist run into party wall then you will need to take up a couple of floorboards and infill between joist at party wall with these bats ..a lot of noise comes through the floor

Linda asks…
What color should I choose to paint over the wall paneling in my new cozy basement apt?
This apartment has so much character, I love it! The only thing that I don’t like is the one wall that is covered in wood paneling (blech). My landlord is allowing me to paint it whatever color I choose. I am looking for a bold, different color that will help to make the room seem larger and brighter as the ceilings in the living room are much lower than the rest of the apartment. Since the wood paneling is only on one wall, I guess it could be considered an accent wall. I am leaning towards a nice, vibrant red, but would that be too much? The rest of the walls are white, and I won’t be able to paint those. If it helps, there is an awesome exposed brick column in the middle of my living room, and as it transitions into the kitchen, wonderful black and white retro vinyl tile is covering the floor! Thanks for the suggestions!!
Mr. Thin Brick answers:
That’s what I was thinking when I was first saw the question…. Red!
I painted the paneling in my living room. I would suggets painting it with Kilz first. It’s a primer paint and will make your color go on easier and look great.
