Your Questions About How Much Do Bricks Cost

Donald asks…
How much do fireplace bricks cost? Per brick price?
Mr. Thin Brick answers:
I sell bricks at a brick yard
(Brickyard in Canada, although we sell bricks made in Canada AND made in the USA imported ones too)
Firebricks for inside the firebox of the fireplace are about
$ 1.40 to $ 1.60 each, and the surface that shows is 4 1/2″ x 9″, usually installed flat like a pancake, with fireclay / refractory cement, so you would need about 3.5 bricks per square foot.
Face bricks, for the face of the fireplace wall and structure can be anywhere between $0.80 to $ 1.20 each, most about $0.90 each. Coverage per square foot depends on which brick size, and that is usually anywhere from 4 bricks / sq.ft. To 7 bricks / sq.ft., and usually the smaller bricks look best, so count it as 7 bricks / sq.ft (smaller bricks need more bricks per square foot, but looks best especially since its a relatively small wall you see close up, instead of a whole building you see from a distance).
These are actual true prices (retail and contractor prices) for the brick themselves, before taxes, and delivery costs. These prices are for just the bricks, not including installation.

Sandra asks…
how much does it cost to build a one car garage out of bricks?
trying to build a hut out of bricks the same size as a one car garage with a metal roof and a double metal door instead of a garage door. Wanted to know how much it cost?
Mr. Thin Brick answers:
You would need to build it out of at least two wythes of brick if it was an all brick garage…when you see a brick garage you are looking at a wood built garage with a brick veneer…you would need at least 20,000 or more solid red brick for an all brick garage…some of the old brick buildings you see are actually 3 or 4 brick thick…

Robert asks…
How much does a pallet of bricks cost?
I have 4 pallets of bricks that the builder left in my garage. How many bricks do you think that I have and what is the average cost of each pallet?
Mr. Thin Brick answers:
A pallet is 500 bricks. Since the average brick weighs about 4 pounds, the pallet is a ton of bricks. But the cost of the brick varies from about 25 cents to 50 cents each, depending whether it is clay or concrete, new or used, and on the discount the builder gets from his supplier. So the value for your four pallets ranges from about $500 to $1000.

James asks…
How much would it cost to fix loose bricks on a home?
Located beneath a window maybe about a total of 16-25sq ft. Bricks are sort of popping out about .25inc. House was built is 1965, It’s about to have some minor foundation work done. Just wanted to know about how much it would cost to repair that section of brick. Thanks for your help! =)
Mr. Thin Brick answers:
Answer: $15
I have done this before. It took about 2 hours and cost about $15.
*I took a digital picture of the way it looked
*pulled the bricks out
*chipped away some of the old loose mortar
*went to Home Depot and bought a bag of mortar for $10, and trowel for $5
*mixed the mortar in a bucket until it was as thick as pancake batter
*put a bit in each space and packed it all back together.
* I used old plastic CD cases to get the spacing right
That was about 10 years ago. It still looks perfect!
If you get right up and stick your nose on the bricks you can tell the difference. But, nobody ever bends down and gets that picky about my brick repair job.
Good luck.
P.S. Mortar dries better in warm weather. Make sure it’s not raining or freezing when you do this. Don’t mix more mortar than you are going to use in about 15-20 minutes.
