How do I stabilize a brick wall on a portion of a hillside that’s been leveled?
Question by makerfaire2: How do I stabilize a brick wall on a portion of a hillside that’s been leveled?
Brick wall is being used as a retaining wall on one side of the flattened area, and will be up against a 4 ft high wall of dirt. This may be something called a deadman anchor but I’m not sure.

My father-in-law and I did one last summer, it was only about 3 ft high, but we dug a sort of a trench first, and made the wall one brick deep into the ground. then we used concrete. I don’t think its necessary to have much of an anchor into the ground, if you very slightly lean your wall into the flattened wall of dirt.
call a pro befor you spend any mony maybe you dont need to stablelize it
Might sound crazy but Thomas Edison “invented” a means by which a brick wall became almost entirely self supporting. Instead of a straight/flat wall he created a wall with an undulating/serpentine curvature to it that provided a sound structural base plus it looks really nice. Just a suggestion. For reference and if you live anywhere near Dearborn Michigan you can check one out at Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum.
In the dirt area, put metal posts in the ground several feet back from the wall, and attach cables from the posts near the top of the brick wall (make sure the wall has a good foundation). Leave the cables a little bit loose. Bury the posts and cables with dirt, and that wall isn’t going anywhere.
