What is the best way to remove paint from brick?

Question by Andrew F: What is the best way to remove paint from brick?
The jokers who owned our home previously pained the brick on the sides of the home. It looks bad and we really want to remove the paint, especially since we want to put a brick addition on the home. What is the best way to remove the paint without damaging the brick underneath.

Grit blasting. You have to be careful about which type of abrasive is used (actual sand is too granular and will take off the finish of the bricks). Sometimes you can use a chemical paint remover, but that is not a good method for such a large area. You may want to contact a company that will perform this service for you.

Sandblasting is costly but most effective. Muriatic acid would come out cheaper but will take you a long time. If you have a large surface to cover, it’s quite a task to undergo in any event.

Chemical treatment followed by hot jetwahing. Will still leave residue as paint will have penetrated porosity of bricks

Look into sandblasting. That’s the only way to get it off completely. You can rent one by the day.

Buy a paint removal solution that is in paste or gel property. Then mix the solution and apply it generously to the bricks.

After some time the paste will softens and gently peel off the material.

Then scrub the remaining paint after your paint removal solution is applied.
