How do I install an electrical box in a concrete/brick wall?
Question by Woodpeckerppa: How do I install an electrical box in a concrete/brick wall?
Hi everyone,
I am wondering if there were any special tool to make a square/rectangular housing in a concrete/brick wall for an electrical box? Generally we can drill a round hole using a masonry bit, then there should be a tool to convert that round hole into a housing for an electrical outlet. I remember seeing someone who does it with a special tool that is attached to a hammer drill/jackhammer.
It would be great if anyone can point me to the right direction.
Thank you in advance.

You could use an angle grinder with a masonry blade on it or a diamond tipped blade would also do the trick don’t use a jackhammer as you could upset the rest of the wall and cause cracking and you could end up with a lot of repairs to do.
What do you think? Answer below!
Can’t help but ask why you don’t want to use a box mounted on the surface of the wall instead. Where are you getting your wire from? If the wall is hollow or the wire is coming through a hole drilled through the wall and you are determined for a flush mounted switch or outlet, you could chisel out the bricks that need to be cut and then cut them to size and reinstall them with mortar that matches the rest of it.
